Artist Leonard Rosenfeld crafts divisive paintings that speak to our nation’s obsession with firearms. As a WWII veteran, the artist captures our indifference to violence by juxtaposing smiley faces and bright, festive colors with images of war.

Rosenfeld renders his images with loose brushstrokes dripping with color with little detail, which reflects how little his subjects seem to understand about the power of the weapons they keep. Casual and provocative, his work looks inside the minds of the brave men and women that serve our country and the stories they tell themselves to stay alive.
